FROM THE BEGINNING

1914

The TORO Motor Company is founded to build tractor engines for its very first customer, The Bull Tractor Company.

1918

During World War I, TORO makes steering mechanisms for merchant supply ships.

1928

TORO goes international, and begins shipping equipment worldwide.

1929

TORO offers its first common stock to the public at $1.40/share.

1935

The first power mower for home-owners, the HomeLawn, is introduced.

1937

TORO revolutionises modern turfcare by launching the first 76-inch professional mower.

1942

TORO ceases its domestic mower manufacturing to build tank and acannon parts for the US war effort during World War II.

1948

The first maker of push rotary mowers, the Whirlwind, is acquired by TORO.

1952

Agro-scientist Dr James R Watson joins TORO to develop agronomic solutions for golf course superintendents and turf managers.

1957

The first bagging attachment for rotary lawn mowers was introduced.

1966

TORO helps prepare turf for Super Bowl and has been a partner ever since.

1968

The first consumer electric-starting lawn mower is introduced.

1973

An industry-changing concept in rotary mowing is launched - the Groundsmaster 72.

1978

The TORO Company trades stock on the New York Stock Exchange.

1988

Parkland appointed New Zealand distributor for TORO.

1989

TORO introduces the Recycler mower, eliminating the need to bag grass clippings.

1995

A new Landscape Contractor Business is formed, providing the most comprehensive live of landscape contractor products.

1997

The TORO Company reaches $1 billion in sales.

1998

TORO becomes a maintenance and irrigation product supplier for Walt Disney World Resort. 

1999

TORO revolutionises modern turfcare by launching the first 76-inch professional mower. 

1999

The revolutionary Personal pace mower is introduced.

2009

TORO introduces the GrandStand best priced commercial rotary mower on the market.
